This 2017 image-of-the-month report describes a case in which 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT showed metastatic disease and helped identify a primary ileal neuroendocrine tumor. The reported findings were confirmed by subsequent surgical pathology.

Summary

Georgios Z. Papadakis, Samira M. Sadowski, Ulas Bagci, and Corina Millo report a case of a 65-year-old man with a gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumor. The authors describe whole-body 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT findings that showed liver and mesenteric lymph-node lesions and suggested the primary tumor's location in the terminal ileum. Surgical pathology subsequently identified a grade-I primary tumor in the terminal ileum, with metastases in the liver and mesenteric lymph nodes. This is a single-patient case report, not a comparative or prospective evaluation. See the published article.
