This RSNA 2015 educational exhibit outlined image processing and analysis in radiology, from modality-specific quantification to radiomics and the importance of clinical interpretation.

Summary

Presented at the Radiological Society of North America’s 101st Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting, this educational exhibit reviewed image processing and analysis methods in radiology. The outline covered image postprocessing, including rendering, noise removal and image registration, and approaches to characterizing tumors and lesions through texture and shape features. It also introduced radiomics—the analysis of quantitative imaging features—and discussed integrating imaging with clinical and genomic data. The exhibit’s teaching points emphasized that processed-image outputs require clinical interpretation. The RSNA 2015 Informatics program lists the exhibit and its participants.
